English Rally Introduction The Chien Hsing English Rally met for the first time on Mother's Day in1998. Sponsored by the Chien Hsing (Taiwanese) Presbyterian Church, the Rally is open to anyone. It includes worship, lessons from the Bible, and discussion, so of course Christians are welcome. But even if you only wish to hear and practice English, you are welcome to come, make friends, ask questions, and share your ideas with us. I am an American, born in Pennsylvania, and have an American wife, Shirley, who is from New York. We have three children: a daughter, Starry, and two sons, Matthew and Nathan. I was a Presbyterian pastor for fifteen years before coming to Taiwan in 1990. Since then, I have studied Mandarin Chinese, taught at Yu-Shan Theological College in Hualien, and worked with the Taichung Aboriginal University Student Center. I have also helped with the English Rally since its beginning. It has been a pleasure for me and my family to get to know so many interesting people through the Rally, and we look forward to meeting many more new friends there in the future. Welcome!
